The Congress of South African Trade Union in the North West said the Helam mine share holders need to start improving the poor conditions that workers are working under, instead of talking about retrenchment.

Cosatu Provincial Secretary Solly Phetoe said if the mine cannot go on with production government must then take over the mine and create more jobs, not reducing the number of workers as a way of running away from their responsibilities.

Phetoe said in any sector retrenchments are never a solution as they leave more damage the company should look at other ways and find a way forward.

He added that as Cosatu they will continue to fight this and ensure that no one gets retrenched.
