Over 240 volunteers from all
over the world traveled about 18 000 km to assist Ukhanyo Primary School, which is located in Masiphumelele.
In the past week, volunteers
from Mellon Educate built seven new classrooms and refurbished eight
classrooms.
This will help the 1 624
pupils who attend the school.
Spokesperson for Western Cape
MEC of Education Jessica Shelver explained that the MERP team has already been
working at Oranjekloof Primary in Imizamo Yethu for the last two years and the
school has recently won an award which recognizes substantial improvement in
mathematics.
In addition, the volunteers
would have constructed a new playground for the primary school learners to
enjoy Shelver conluded.
