With the presence of great sharks at in-shore areas expected to increase over the summer season, the City of Cape Town is ensuring that necessary precautionary measures are in place.

In a statement, the City says since September, there have been seven shark sightings at beaches monitored by the City’s partners.

Mayoral Committee member for Energy, Environmental and Spatial Planning, Johan van der Merwe says, there has been one sighting in Muizenberg, one in Kogel Bay, one in Monwabisi and one in Fish Hoek

“There are sharks in our waters year round but as the summer season comes we are asking surfers and others to be more vigilant”.
