The Congress Of the People has urged University of Johannesburg protesters to focus on their exams for now.

Cope Spokesperson Dennis Bloem said, like all students in other universities, UJ students must postpone activism to complete this academic year successfully.

Bloem explained that COPE was dismayed that police arrested scores of students near the Kingsway Campus of the University of Johannesburg on Friday especially at this crucial time in their lives.

“COPE urges the South African Police Services to release the protesters at once, but Furthermore and more importantly, students should be spending time at present preparing for their exams, not sitting in a jail this weekend that they should have devoted to studying.” Bloem said.

“The time for protests continues to avail itself in the future, the time for writing exams, however is confined to the present moment.” Bloem concluded.
