35-year-old woman rescued from Robben Island after she went into labour

The National Sea Rescue Institute on Tuesday rescued a 35-year-old woman from Robben Island. 

NSRI were called for medical assistances after the woman went into labour.

 The NSRI team responded together with the Western Cape Health Emergency Medical Services paramedics. 

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the patient was brought onboard to their sea rescue craft.

“She was brought to the Port of Table Bay where she was transferred into an Ambulance and taken to Somerset West Hospital,” Lambinon said

Lambinon added that it’s been reported that the mom and the baby are doing well, but she is still in labour.
