This morning the Hawks arrested two Home Affairs officials for theft.

Hawks Spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko said the two officials received R140 for each identity document which they did not process.

The suspects were tasked with helping school children get their identity documents.

Ramaloko said the case was brought to the Hawks by the department of Home Affairs in June this year.

It is alleged that the officials were pocketing the money paid to them by the clients that had went to the department to renew their documents.

Ramaloko further said the two officials arrested today will remain in police custody until they appear in court on Monday on charges of theft.

He added that more arrested are expected.
