A 25-year-old man was rescued by police on Tuesday after he was chained for 22 days in a house on the KwaZulu Natal South Coast by an international gang.

The gang demanded R1 million from the family.

Police Spokesperson Vincent Mdunge said the man identified as Mosein Patal was tortured, he starved and was threatened.

Mdunge said the family had deposited R100 000 into a certain bank account as they were ordered by the suspects, but the victim was not released as the suspects demanded another R200 000.

He further said police understood the danger that the victim was under and they went into the house in the early hours of Tuesday and they arrested seven suspects.
