The Democratic Alliance has called on the National Energy Regulator of South Africa to explain to Parliament why they approved Eskom’s tariff increases next year.

Eskom will in 2015   raise electricity prices above the 8%.

DA MP of Energy Lance Greyling said it is clear that South African consumers are once again being forced to bear the burden of Eskom’s inefficiencies.

Greyling said Nersa needs to explain to the Energy Portfolio Committee why it granted this increases. It seems likely that Nersa granted this increase to save Eskom.
