Seven people were injured this morning after a bus and taxi collided at the Malibongwe and Witkoppen Road intersection in Johannesburg.

ER24 Spoekesperson Russel Meiring said when ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found a taxi and bus stationed in the middle of the busy intersection.

Meiring said on assessment of the scene, ER24 paramedics discovered that seven people had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. The driver of the bus lay trapped in his vehicle and was in a critical condition.

Meiring said Provincial fire services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the patient before treatment could continue. Once freed, ER24 paramedics provided the patient with advanced life support before he was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

“The remaining patients were treated for their injuries and transported to nearby hospitals for further observations. The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations Meiring added.
