A man has been killed and another was left in a critical condition after  their bakkie was hit by a large truck on the N11 approximately two kilometres outside of New Castle in KwaZulu-Natal.

“Paramedics of ER24 and local rescue services had arrived on the scene, found that the two men were still trapped in the vehicle. One of the men was rapidly extricated from the vehicle. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated and paramedics initiated CPR. Sadly, a bit later, he died on scene.” ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said.

Vermaak added that local fire and rescue services had to use hydraulic rescue equipment in order to remove the other occupant. He was rushed off to Madadeni Provincial Hospital.

Local authorities attended the incident and will conduct an investigation.
