The Western Cape Environmental
Affairs Department says following one of the worst fire seasons in recent memory in early 2015, it’s geared up and
ready for this summer. Biodiversity agency CapeNature recorded 153 vegetation fires in the last financial year,
the highest in the past 17 years. Earlier this year, the south peninsula was
engulfed by runaway vegetation blazes. Local Government, Environmental Affairs
and Development Planning MEC Anton Bredell says emergency crews are adequately
prepared.
