Today Students at the University of Cape Town protested at the Upper Campus against the proposed tuition fees.

A group consisting of mostly black students sang struggle songs and held up placards.

We adjudicate the fees must end. When we say fees must end it speak directly with the nation agenda of African [National] Congress as the ruling party. It speaks to this question of free education.” Spokesperson for Fees Must Fall Chumani Maxwele said.

“The possibility of free education and now the question now is how do we do that? And I think what we are doing here and what wits did and what other universities are going to follow up, is push the government to implement free education.” Maxwele added.

“It’s not acceptable that fees are increasing and students are being excluded on account of fees. Everyone should have the right to education and the right to an attend university such as UCT and the others across the country.” Megan a first-year B.tech Social Science student said.
