Arts and Culture Director General suspended

Lusanda Bill
02 October 2014

The Director General of the Department of Arts and Culture Sibusiso Xaba has been suspended.

In a statement Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa said his suspension is with full pay until a forensic investigation on irregular expenditure and non-adherence to procedure has been done.

Minister Mthethwa said the suspension is a precautionary measure and does not constitute a judgment.

Ministerial Spokesperson Sandile Memela said the suspension itself follows a presentation of a qualified report by the auditor general on the department of arts and culture.

Memela said the AG identified weakness that includes the severity and growth of irregular expenditure in the department, and the possible lack of action against officials who made and or permitted irregular expenditure.
