Reconvening of Parliament described as a positive political development

Lusanda Bill
18 October 2014

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa labelled the reconvening of Parliament in Lesotho on Friday as a positive political development.

Parliament in Lesotho was suspended in June following a coup attempt. Elections will be held on February 2015.

Deputy Ramaphosa said the reconvening of Parliament was a massive historic milestone.  He said this move has stabilised democracy in Lesotho, and it further ensured that the democratic path is the only path that Lesotho can proceed on towards proper peace and stability.

Ramaphosa said the opening of Parliament was well received by members of Parliament demonstrating the satisfaction of the agreement reached two weeks ago, when the Maseru Facilitation Declaration was signed.
