Suspect shot and killed following the fatal shooting of a police officer

A police officer was shot dead allegedly by a suspect held in police custody at Pinetown police station.

Police Spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said three police officers were busy charging the suspect, when he apparently disarmed one and opened fire.

KwaZulu-Natal’s Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, has condemned the murder of a police officer at the Pinetown police station.

Zwane said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni extended her condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Warrant Officer John who died in the line of duty.

She also wished the two injured members who are still in hospital for the injuries they have sustained during the shooting, a speedy recovery.

 “This attack on police officers and a civilian is unacceptable and it must be strongly condemned Zwane added.
