Eastern Cape Police in Bhisho have arrested
two Western Cape men suspected of transporting an estimated 600 abalone worth
an estimated R800 000 in Bhisho.
Police’s Nkosikho Mzuku said It is alleged
that the suspects were spotted driving a white bakkie with a vehicle
registration from the Western Cape , Gansbaai en route
to Durban .
“The members, who were on patrol noticed
liquid dripping from the back of the bakkie. They decided to stop the driver
and questioned him. after he failed to give satisfactory answers, the members
examined the back of the bakkie and found plastic containers filled with
abalone. The driver was arrested immediately.”
He concluded by saying that this is a
second arrest within a month, one was on the 22 September 2014, a Western Cape
man suspected of transporting more than 800 abalone units worth an estimated
R1-million was also arrested in King William’s Town.
