Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Donald Grant has extended the Average Speed over Distance Enforcement System ahead of the Easter weekend.

MEC Grant in a statement said the department remains confident that with the ASOD system in place, more and more people will slow down on the roads reducing their likelihood of being involved in an accident.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said Average Speed over Distance system is a system that we have used in various stretches of provincial roads including the N1, the R61 and the R27 to improve safety and reduce the number of crashes caused by speed.

Dube said this latest phase now extends the speed to cover a total of 452km of the provinces roads and we are confident that we will continue to see decrease number of incidents on those roads, which will in turn save many lives.
