In a statement issued, the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police Department says it has noticed a significant reduction in the number of smash-and-grab incidents along Jakes Gerwel Drive, considered the hot spot for this crime in Cape Town.

“As a result of this in the last 5 months we have seen a number of incidents dropped from 42 to 5. Metro Police also made 13 arrests over the last two months. The latest arrest came over Saturday night and some of the measures used include the use of CCTV cameras that will be used by SAPS for prosecution.” City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith said
