The Department of Basic
Education will soon publish provincial infrastructure norms and standards.
The process will include
Minister Angie Motshekga going through all draft plans and interrogating and
scrutinising all details.
In a statement the department
has stated that it is working tirelessly to ensure that the school
infrastructure norms and standards are implemented in a systematic and
efficient way.
Ministerial Spokesperson
Elijah Mhlanga said these plans were put together as part of the regulations
for minimum norms and standards for school infrastructure. As government we
want to show that we are committed to rolling out infrastructure to all our
schools to make sure that they have facilities that are required for normal
schooling to take place.
Meanwhile the department has
rejected allegations that by not publishing the norms and standards it has
something to hide.
The DBE said it has always had
a reliable track record of transparency and it has always been the intention of
the department to make the plans public in order to allow members of the public
to monitor implementation for relevant stakeholders.
Mhlanga said the allegations
by some of the NGO’s is so not true and that we cannot rush this process as it
is too important.
