The South African Municipal Workers Union has expressed its shock over the shooting incident on a Metrobus west of Johannesburg this morning.

The shooting left the driver of the bus in a critical condition. Police have now launched a manhunt for the five suspects who held the driver and two passengers at gunpoint before robbing them of their valuables.

Samwu Regional Secretary Meisie Sekaledi says we urge Metrobus management to ensure the state of their employees more especially those who perform their duties in the wee hours of the morning.

We further urge anyone who has information to approach a nearest police station so that these criminals face the full might of the law, this is what we need as unions that the law has to take its own course because we cannot live in a country where people are not safe, Sekaledi added.
