Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande says the poor state of some student accommodation is one of the reasons why tertiary education failure rates are so high.

Government will invest over R147 billion over the next 15 years.

This will aid in the alleviation of the massive backlog and improve conditions for student housing.

Nzimande says the student bed shortage stood at approximately 2000 thousand last year and is expected to rise drastically next year.
