Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District project yielding results

Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato, MEC of Transport and Public Works Donald Grant together with Metrorail Regional Manager Richard Walker did a successful site visit to the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District project in Parow.

MEC Plato said when crime becomes a problem in a community it will inevitably spill over into train stations and trains.

Over the past six years crime in Bellville and Parow has increased dramatically.

Ministerial Spokesperson Ewald Botha said part of the programme as included pilot projects at both the Bellville and Parow transport interchanges in a bid to enhance the safety for the communities to reply on public transport to get to and from their various destinations.

Botha added that as part of this pilot project 50 graduates have been deployed to various stations in different ways of which they receive on the job training from the relative staff.
