The City of Cape Town
officially opened the Vincent Community Health Centre in Belhar following much
needed renovations.
The more than 25-year centre
sees on average 585 clients on a daily basis who access a range of services
relating to maternal and child health, HIV, STI’s TB and also deals with mental
health issues.
Mayor Patricia de Lille
Spokesperson Zara Nicholson said this investment of more than R8, 2 million was
spent for the addition of a paediatric wing, an upgraded TB section, and the
complete renovation and upgrade of the reception area.
“In addition, we constructed a
staff room and new ablution facilities for clients, replaced the old asbestos
roof as well as the seating in the waiting areas, and repainted and re-tiled the
entire clinic.
The Mayor has appealed to the
community of Belhar to take ownership of this facility and help in protecting
it from vandalism and thieves,” Nicholson added.
