The Western Cape government is calling on women to challenge themselves by making the most of every business opportunity.

MEC for Economic Development Alan Winde said that this will require self confidence and a change in mind set for them.

Winde today addressed women at an International Women's Day event, hosted by the Cape Chamber of Commerce.

Winde also said women must continue to claim their space in business.

Winde added that of the 39,000 service providers used by the provisional government 13,000 are owned by women, and 720 are black owned.

The MEC further said more than R700 million of government business in 2011, went to women.
