The University of Cape Town confirmed today that over R70 000 was stolen at its main campus.
Last Friday catering staff was held up by two armed men and robbed of R73 000 and a BMW.
Campus security made chase after being alerted by a student.
UCT’s Mologadi Makwela said criticism into the institutions surveillance system was unjustifiable.
Makwela added that it is true that there is no camera surveillance on the campus.
He also said a CPS station is located in the building where the crime was committed and officers were on the scene immediately.
Police and campus security are investigating the incident.
