Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Donald Grant said hardworking traffic officers remain committed to carrying out round-the-clock enforcement of traffic laws on the provincial roads.

This follows the arrest of a male suspect yesterday on the N2 outside Grabouw carrying 35 bags of abalone to the value of R800 000.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said the man was transporting abalone in a light Toyota delivery vehicle and he was apprehended on the N2. The suspect has been handed over to the police and a case has been opened for further investigations.

“MEC Grant has commended the delegated traffic law enforcement officers for their work and apprehending these criminals and also welcomed 29 new traffic officers that will be joining this team that would be working hard to ensure that the roads are safe and free from criminalisation” Dube added.
