This morning a man was killed after he was pinned beneath his overturned bakkie on the N2 before the Raapenburg turn-off in Athlone in the Western Cape.

Emergency services arrived on the scene and found the bakkie lying on its roof in the slow lane of the highway.

On further assessment, paramedics found the body of the man lying beneath the bakkie.

Nothing more could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.

It is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the roadside barrier and overturn.

The man was then apparently ejected from the vehicle and pinned beneath.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
