It is still unclear whether arson outbreaks at the University of Cape Town’s lower campus are related to student protests. According to reports, four vehicles were set alight overnight near the Baxter Residence.

Upon security arrival, the cars were already on fire and eventually the fire department arrived and extinguished the flames but the cars were already damaged.

The police then closed off area.

Meanwhile, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s Lauren Kansley has confirmed a sixth vehicle was set alight at the institution's Bellville campus overnight.
