A twenty two years old man electrocuted himself at the Strand North Cemetery while, while attempting to steal copper cable from the kiosk and adjoining substation in Brooklyn.

Vice Squard spokesperson Neil Arendse says the deceased a possible accomplice entered the Strand North Cemetery during the early hours of Saturday morning and attempted to break down the safety gate at the door of the substation.

“It is thought that the deceased had an accomplice that night, as the copper cables, as well as the deceased’s bag of clothes, were missing from the scene.

The Copperheads will continue their investigation into the matter, “we would like to once again warn the community to not commit cable theft, as this is not only illegal, but clearly also very dangerous” said Neil Arendse.

Arendse added that they conducted an operation on Saturday night, 27 sex workers in the Brooklyn area were profiled.

“Of these twenty seven sex workers, eighteen were found to be first-time offenders, five were second-time offenders, and four were third-time offenders.

“The four third-time offenders risk being caught again and taken directly to court on charges of prostitution. A total of R20 000 worth of fines were issued in this regard,” said Arendse.
