Two people are in a critical condition in hospital after they have involved in a car accident on the N2 this morning.

The incident that also left six others with minor injuries occurred when a taxi and two cars collided on the road direction Cape Town near the Athlone cooling towers.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks says upon their arrival on the scene a taxi and two light motor vehicles were on the left lane of the freeway up against the Armco barrier.

Banks says two critically injured victims who sustained possible head and neck injuries were stabilised using specialised equipment.

The six others were treated for minor cuts and bruises on the scene. They were all transported to hospital for further treatment.

Banks says the cause of the accident is unclear but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
