A 20-year-old man was this afternoon bitten by a shark while surfing off-shore in Muizenberg Beach.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the incident happened when the shark siren was in the process of being activated.

The Muizenberg Beach has been closed and bather and surfers along the False Bay coastline are urged to exercise caution.

Lambinon said on arrival on scene the man was found to be in a stable condition and he has been treated for multiple lacerations to his lower limps including avulsions to his left thigh.

“He has been airlifted to a hospital in a stable condition by the Skymed helicopter.” Lambinon added.
