The Western Cape MEC of Education Debbie Schafer on Thursday attended the launch of the Health Activist Workbook, which aims at educating grade 8 and 9 learners about communicable diseases.

Minister Schafer in a statement said the workbook is not a substitute for the text book, but should serve as a critical resource to raise awareness of learners about TB.
Ministerial Spokesperson Jessica Shelver said this intervention has become critical for the Western Cape Education Department in partnership with the University of Western Cape to counter the growing rate of TB and HIV in our schools.

Shelver added that the WCED has intensified the efforts to raise learner awareness about the dangers of TB in our province's schools.
