Department of Labour warning companies on the new EE Act

The Department of Labour said it will impose harsh penalties on companies who do not comply with the new Amended Employment Equity Act. 

One of the changes to the Act deals with equal pay which means same work or similar work for equal pay for employees working for the same employer. 

The amendments to the act were signed into law by President Jacob Zuma on the 1st of August 2014. 

Departmental Spokesperson Candice van Reenen said in affirming the department’s compliance the roadshow in Millerton highlighted the harsh penalties should companies not comply with the Employment Equity Act.

“Our Director General may apply directly to the Labour Court to impose fines should we find that companies do not implement employment equity plans” Van Reenen added.
