A 33-year-old Eastern Cape police constable was shot dead near Queenstown over the weekend.

The Saps management in the province has expressed its sadness over the shooting.

Police are currently investigating the incident and no arrests have been made as yet.

Colonel Sibongile Soci said it is alleged that the husband went to inform the neighbours that he had shot and killed his wife.

While the neighbours were still informing the police he then turned the gun on himself.

“At this stage the cause of this incident is unknown due to the intense nature of events but SAPS have opened an investigation into the matter Soci added.
