The Congress of South African Trade Unions visited the farm workers and farm dwellers who are being threatened with illegal eviction by the new owner of the farm at Rietfontein.

The new owner bought the farm in 1999 after the old owner sold it to him but he did not explain anything to those farm workers and farm dwellers who were born on that farm.

COSATU NW provincial Secretary Solly Phetoe said the farm workers have been served with papers from the lawyers of the new owner saying that within thirty days they must have left the farm or they will be evicted.

“We call on all relevant departments to make sure that farm workers are protected and not evicted without proper accommodation, with water and electricity, and that children are able to go to school Phetoe added.
