Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato today addressed the media on a way forward regarding the findings of the Khayelitsha Commission of Inquiry.

MEC Plato said the plan of action from the report is to ensure the successful implementation of the relevant finds with the goal of improving the safety of residents of the area.

Ministerial Spokesperson Ewald Botha said having had the opportunity to study the detailed findings contained in the report and having consulted with provincial cabinet, departments and other entities.

Meanwhile Western Cape Premier Helen Zille established the commission in 2012 amongst complaints about police inefficiency in Khayelitsha.

The inquiry last month handed over a 600-page document with over 20 recommendations to the Premier.

MEC Plato said he will also table the inquiry report in the Provincial Legislature for debate.

Ministerial Spokesperson Ewald Botha said the Khayelitsha Commission of Inquiry was established by the Premier in August 2012 based on allegations of police inefficiency in Khayelitsha and of a breakdown in relations between the community and the police in the area.

“MEC Plato will pave the way forward towards the goal of improving the safety of the residents of Khayelitsha, Better Together Botha added.
