Western Cape MEC of Economic Opportunities Alan Winde on Tuesday welcomed the postponement of the child visa regulations.

Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba on Tuesday announced that due to challenges the regulations has been postponed until the 1st of June 2015.

MEC Winde said Minister Gigaba has now shown a willingness to work with other government departments and industry to mitigate the effects of the legislation on the economy.

Gigaba said we are pleased that the department of home affairs has come to this decision to postpone the enforcement of the new regulations for travelling with minors.

Gigaba said as we know the application process for an unabridged birth certificate is relatively simple. However it can take over six weeks to process, which puts a lot of pressure on travellers.

“The extension would ensure customers were better prepared once it did come into effect in 2015 Gigaba added.
