Smart Card office to be launched in Soweto

Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba will today be launching the Home Affairs Smart ID card dedicated office at Maponya Mall. 

Minister Gigaba said this is part of the department’s efforts in expanding its footprint to become accessible to as many South African’s as possible.

Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba said they have emphasized in the past the importance of ensuring that we 16 year-olds need to apply for their smart ID cards.

“We need to get parents to ensure that their children are registered for birth within the first 30 days of the birth of the children and to ensure that South Africans protect and safe guard their citizenship, this is part of that effort by extending our footprints and ensuring that as many people as possible can have access to the offices of Home Affairs.” Gigaba added.
