President Jacob Zuma on Thursday welcomed the release of the so-called spy tapes.

Last week the Supreme Court of Appeal ordered the National Prosecuting Authority to release the spy tapes to the Democratic Alliance.

Meanwhile DA leader Helen Zille said the party’s forensic expert together with the lawyers will go through the tapes and advice way forward.

Presidential Spokesperson Mac Maharaj said all of this emanated from the agreement which the parties reached and which was presented to the Supreme Court of Appeal for the incorporation into the order of court.

“This process is designed to determine what constitute the record upon which the NPA decision was based.  However the President is happy with the process thus far” Maharaj added.
