Three people died in WC road accidents over the weekend

Western Cape Traffic Authorities over the past weekend stopped 1 401 vehicles in 12 roadblocks throughout the weekend. 

627 drivers were tested for alcohol and 7 drunken drivers were arrested during the roadblocks.

Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said one person was arrested on the N2 near Swellendam because he had false documentation in his possession.

“The highest reading for the drunken driving was 1.06mg/1000 ml on the N2 near Mossel Bay. The total amount of fines issued was R281 000 and we tested a speed of 2499 vehicles and prosecuted 265 drivers for excedding the speed limit.”  Africa added

Also during the roadblocks authorities prosecuted 265 drivers for exceeding the speed limit in Brackenfell and Worcester.

“Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the highest speed recorded in the Western Cape was 168 km/h in a 120 km/h zone between Paarl and Breckenfell and 154 km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N1 between Worcester and Paarl.” Africa said.

Africa concluded by saying that there were three fatalities reported a passenger died in a motor vehicle accident. A pedestrian died in Observatory and another pedestrian died in Bellville also in the motor vehicle accident brings to total of fatalities to stand at three this weekend
