Four foreign national sentenced to eight years in jail

This week four foreign nationals were sentenced to eight years in jail by the Kagiso Magistrate Court for attempted murder, possession of firearms and ammunition. 

The four are from Rwandan, Tanzania and Uganda. 

The National Prosecuting Authority called on foreign nationals who are granted asylum to respect the sovereignty of the country and not abuse their status. 

NPA Spokesperson Nathi Mncube said the sentenced was as follow the accused were sentenced to eight years imprisonment for the attempted murder.

Mncube added that they were sentenced to five years imprisonment for the possession of firearm and also another two years for the possession of ammunition

"The magistrate then decided to say that all the sentence will run concurrently, which means that they will serve eight years effectively in custody and when they finished their sentence they will have to be deported back to their country." Mncube said.
