ER24 paramedics late last night attended to an accident scene whereby a couple in their twenties collided into a truck on the N12 highway in the North West.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said when they arrived on scene, they found a mangled vehicle stationed in the middle of the intersection. A large truck had pulled off to the side of the road 50 metres away from the scene.

“On assessment, paramedics discovered that the driver of the light motor vehicle sat trapped behind the steering wheel. Both occupants of the vehicle were in a critical condition. Provincial rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the trapped driver. Once freed, both patients were carefully removed from the vehicles and provided with advanced life support.” Meiring added.

He also said once stable, both patients were transported by ambulance to Mediclinic Potchefstroom for urgent treatment.

The exact details of the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
