National Sea Rescue Institute East London volunteers were activated late on Tuesday night following three crewmen on-board a yacht.

This is after they reported a damaged rudder and were unable to sail further off Mazeppa Bay.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said during the response the yachtsmen managed to rig a temporary rudder.

Lambinon said the last information we received from the three crewmen was that they were 36 nautical miles off-shore and 46 nautical miles from East London and sailing without incident.

“A decision will be made later in the day if they need to be fetched or they can sail on their own” Lambinon added.
