The Congress of South African Trade Union in the Western Cape will be embarking on a strike action in the province over the increase of bread prices.

Cosatu has also called on government to regulate the price of bread to protect consumers against these unethical practises.

Cosatu’s Tony Ehrenreich said because on top of the other costs it is costing the poorer communities even more.

Ehrenreich said what we see is that when the price of fuel went up the price of bread also went up and companies have been struggling to keep up with their transport costs.

Ehrenreich said now the price of the price of fuel has come down by half the cost but they refuse to bring down the price of bread instead pushing up the price of bread further.

“Cosatu rejects these increases and will probe and strike against it if need be that we have to take it far in order to protect people’s right to adequate food prices” Ehrenreich added.
