Shortage of chronic medication nationwide

The Western Cape Department of Health says there is still a shortage of chronic medication across the country.

This shortage affected a wide range of medications which include heart conditions and high cholesterol. The shortage of chronic medication is causing a major strain on health facilities and staff.

The departments Marika Champion said the department is doing their best to address the shortage and to provide patients with all the medical care including the medication that they need.

Patients are urged to go to their closest facilities and bring this, to the attention of the facility Manager and liaise with their Medical Practitioner and the Pharmacists.
