Dusi confirms paddler's death at marathon

A 57-year-old participant of the Dusi Canoe Marathon died in the second round of the race, after his boat hit a rock and he then experienced difficulty.

The paddler has been identified as Heine Jordaan who is a dentist from Durban.

The Marathon’s Austen Smith said the incident has shaken the Dusi to the core and have sent condolences to his family.

“The Dusi committee and the Dusi family is extremely saddened by the incident and we pass our sincere condolences to the family of Heine Jordaan” Smith added.
