Six people died in WC roads over the weekend

Western Cape Traffic Authorities over this past weekend conducted 24 roadblocks across the province in which 2 658 vehicles where stopped and checked.

1 262 drivers were tested for alcohol and 32 drivers were arrested for drunken driving. 

Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the highest reading recorded was 1.40 mg/1000 ml in the Breckenfell area.

Africa added that the total amount of fines we issued was R308 050. The highest speed recorded in the Western Cape was 151km/h in a 100 km/h zone that was on the N1 in Worcester.

Meanwhile also during the roadblocks one person was arrested in Worcester for failing to comply with instruction from a law enforcement official.

Two other people were arrested in Caledon for being in possession of dagga. 

Six fatalities were reported on the province’s roads this past weekend. 

Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said four pedestrians died in our roads, one was killed in Philippi, one in Worcester, one in Caledon and another one in Paarl.

“In Klapmuts we had one driver who lost his life in a motor vehicle accident and a motorcyclist also died in the motor vehicle accident.” Africa added.
