The Western Cape Department of Education has confirmed that it has charged the
WCED’s Paddy Attwell said the department
withdrew the registration of the school as a private school with effect from
the 10th of December last year.
This is after the school failed to meet
requirements for continued registration.
Attwell said the department investigated
last week after receiving complaints from parents and found that the school was
still operating. The department reported the case to the Wynberg police on
Wednesday last week.
“Our main concern is for the learners of
the school and our district will help them find places as required” Attwell
added.
Meanwhile the WCED said it is concerned
about the learners as Grade 12 marks from last year will not be recognized. The
school has now been officially charged with operating an illegal school, as
maintaining an unregistered independent school is an offence under the South
African Schools Act.
WCED’s Paddy Attwell said the school did
not submit year marks for any of the six candidates of the school who wrote
matric exams last year, and they did not receive their matric results.
Attwell said in addition the education
authorities will not officially recognised any results obtained at an illegal
school. Essentially at the moment the school is operating illegally and that is
an offence, and that is why we reported it to the police.
