Nine people including two children died in a head on collision last night on the R30 between Brandford and Theunissen in the Free State.

It is believed that a VW Polo and a Ford laser collided head on with each other leaving some passengers trapped inside the vehicles.

ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said seven people were killed, two were children believed to be three and four years old.

Vermaak added that two people were left in a critical condition by this incident, they were both treated on scene and rushed to hospital, and sadly later both of them succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
