Western Cape Premier Helen Zille will today listen to young people in Stellenbosch as part of the Year Beyond Programme regarding challenges in education.

The programme recruits and trains young motivated people who spend a year tutoring and mentoring learners in underperforming schools.

The young people are expected to share what needs to change to address school dropouts and improve academic excellence.

Premier Spokesperson Michael Mpofu said, the idea is that these particular mentors will have experience to look at the score system and understand what the real challenges are, and possibly bringing up a solution as to how we can tackle them.

This is particularly good because we getting an inside perspective.

“We came to try and impose our ideas, but sometimes it helps to learn from people who walks through the system and whoa are currently working in the system and hopefully it would be a great opportunity for something solid to come out of it.” Mpofu added.
